Description
This Glen Moray was bottled by The Caskhound, a 15 year old, distilled in 2010, from cask 146, bottled at 56.3%, one of 256 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from Elgin, known for its light, fruity and accessible style. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most.
The spirit was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. Finished in a Red Wine cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. At oxidative maturity aldehydes lend a nutty edge while ellagitannins add a gentle, drying grip over the fruit. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time.
At cask strength 56.3% it is full bodied. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with red berry and a dry spice from the cask. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is the easy, fruity malt of Elgin.
