Description
The London house Berry Bros and Rudd bottled this Glen Moray, a 15 year old, distilled in 2008, from cask 5587, bottled at 54.2%, one of 213 bottles. Glen Moray is a light, easy Speyside single malt with a long line of cask finishes. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise.
It was run through the stills on River Lossie water for a light make, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. Finished in a Red Wine cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. At oxidative maturity aldehydes lend a nutty edge while ellagitannins add a gentle, drying grip over the fruit. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear.
At its natural 54.2% it is concentrated. A clean, fruity sweetness, with red berry and a dry spice from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and a creamy vanilla sit behind the cask. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
