Description
From the bottler Phil and Simon Thompson, a 15 year old Glen Moray, distilled in 2007, bottled at 50.7%, one of 213 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt known for vanilla, honey and orchard fruit. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla and a soft honey. At oxidative maturity aldehydes lend a nutty edge while ellagitannins add a gentle, drying grip over the fruit. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. Glen Moray has long made an accessible, fruity Speyside in the classic style. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.
At its natural 50.7% it is concentrated. A clean, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is an approachable Speyside single malt from Elgin.
