Description
The Glasgow bottler Douglas Laing bottled this Glen Moray, a 15 year old, distilled in 2007, from cask DL 15887, bottled at 48.4%, one of 302 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt known for vanilla, honey and orchard fruit. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.
The spirit was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, building the fresh Glen Moray style. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending vanilla and a little coconut. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the apple turning honeyed and a soft dried fruit creeping in. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most.
At cask strength 48.4% it is full bodied. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A soft fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
