Description
This Glen Moray was bottled by the Huntly bottler Duncan Taylor, a 15 year old, distilled in 2007, from cask 705934, bottled at 51.8%, one of 236 bottles. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie.
The spirit was worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. Most Glen Moray begins in American oak ex-Bourbon, the base for its cask finishes. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the light fruit deepening to honey. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit.
At a hearty 51.8% it carries real weight. Baked apple, vanilla and a creamy toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. The finish is long, fruity and clean. This is an approachable Speyside single malt from Elgin.
