Description
A Glen Moray of a 15 year old chosen by the bottler Jean Boyer, distilled in 2002, bottled at 43%, one of 197 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from La Martiniquaise, light and approachable in style. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.
It was distilled light and fruity in the Glen Moray style, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending vanilla and a little coconut. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the apple turning honeyed and a soft dried fruit creeping in. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin.
Reduced to 43%, it is mellow. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. Apple, pear and a soft oak see out the finish. This is Glen Moray's clean, accessible Speyside style.
