Description
The Campbeltown house Cadenhead bottled this Glen Moray, a 15 year old, distilled in 1998, bottled at 46%, one of 684 bottles. Glen Moray, founded in 1897 in a former brewery, is one of Speyside's best loved malts. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.
The spirit was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the apple. At oxidative maturity aldehydes lend a nutty edge while ellagitannins add a gentle, drying grip over the fruit. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit.
Bottled at 46%, it is rounded. A clean, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is Glen Moray's clean, accessible Speyside style.
