Description
A Glen Moray of a 14 year old chosen by the bottler Whiskybroker.co.uk, distilled in 2008, from cask 5803, bottled at 51.1%, one of 180 bottles. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.
It was distilled light and fruity in the Glen Moray style, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the light fruit lead. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and pear. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes.
At a natural 51.1% it is full and fruity. Green apple, honey and a gentle oak, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. The finish is long, fruity and clean. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
