Description
From the Huntly bottler Duncan Taylor, a 14 year old Glen Moray, distilled in 2007, from cask 705914, bottled at 53.3%, one of 240 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside malt from Elgin, the heart of the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand.
The spirit was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the orchard fruit. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the body softer and the fruit riper. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie.
Bottled at a cask strength 53.3%, it is rich. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is an approachable Speyside single malt from Elgin.
