Description
A 14 year old Glen Moray from Meadowside Blending, distilled in 2007, from cask 511438, bottled at 53.8%, one of 451 bottles. Glen Moray is a light, sweet Speyside malt, founded in 1897 on the banks of the River Lossie. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.
Made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, building a light, accessible character of orchard fruit and vanilla. It was finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood layered over the light malt. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and pear. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time.
At a natural 53.8% it is full and fruity. Green apple, honey and a gentle oak, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
