Description
The bottler Phil and Simon Thompson bottled this Glen Moray, a 13 year old, distilled in 2007, bottled at 50%, one of 532 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from La Martiniquaise, light and approachable in style. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s.
It was run through the stills on River Lossie water for a light make, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the light spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and toffee. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most.
Bottled at a cask strength 50%, it is rich. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft orchard fruit and a creamy vanilla sit behind the cask. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
