Description
A 12 year old Glen Moray from the bottler High Spirits Distribution, distilled in 2008, from cask 2, bottled at 50%, one of 306 bottles. Glen Moray is a light, easy Speyside single malt with a long line of cask finishes. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s.
It was worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, building a light, accessible character of orchard fruit and vanilla. Finished in a Burgundy cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the body softer and the fruit riper. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise.
At a hearty 50% it carries real weight. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a soft red berry and an earthy edge from the cask. A soft fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is Glen Moray's clean, accessible Speyside style.
