Description
A Glen Moray of an 11 year old chosen by the Alistair Walker Whisky Company, distilled in 2011, from cask 2352, bottled at 59.6%, one of 315 bottles. Glen Moray, founded in 1897 in a former brewery, is one of Speyside's best loved malts. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.
It was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. Most Glen Moray begins in American oak ex-Bourbon, the base for its cask finishes. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and pear. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
Bottled at a cask strength 59.6%, it is rich. Baked apple, vanilla and a creamy toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. Apple, pear and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
