Description
The bottler Battlehill Scotch Whisky Co bottled this Glen Moray, an 11 year old, distilled in 2008, bottled at 46%. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from La Martiniquaise, light and approachable in style. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie.
It was worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, building the fresh Glen Moray style. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the light fruit lead. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the body softer and the fruit riper. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit.
At 46% it is smooth and fruity. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
