The bottler whic - Whiskycircle bottled this Glen Moray, an 11 year old, distilled in 2007, from cask 5640, bottled at 51.1%, one of 261 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside malt from Elgin, the heart of the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish.

It was run through the stills on River Lossie water for a light make, building a light, accessible character of orchard fruit and vanilla. Most Glen Moray begins in American oak ex-Bourbon, the base for its cask finishes. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the body softer and the fruit riper. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear.

At 51.1%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. Apple, pear and a soft vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft orchard fruit and a creamy vanilla sit behind the cask. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is the easy, fruity malt of Elgin.
