Description
The bottler Decadent Drinks bottled this Glen Moray, a 10 year old, distilled in 2014, bottled at 57.1%, one of 297 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt and a pioneer of wine cask finishing. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s.
It was distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, building a light, accessible character of orchard fruit and vanilla. Finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and toffee. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear.
Bottled at a cask strength 57.1%, it is rich. Green apple, honey and a gentle oak, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. Apple, pear and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
