Description
A Glen Moray of a 10 year old chosen by the bottler Jewish Whisky Company, distilled in 2014, from cask 170376, bottled at 56.4%, one of 329 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt and a pioneer of wine cask finishing. Glen Moray has long made an accessible, fruity Speyside in the classic style.
The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. Maturation finished in a Pedro Ximenez cask, layered over the light Glen Moray make. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and pear. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time.
At a natural 56.4% it is full and fruity. A light, orchard fruit and toffee, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is a light Speyside malt from the banks of the Lossie.
