Description
From the bottler Claxton's, a 10 year old Glen Moray, distilled in 2013, from cask C23094, bottled at 52.6%, one of 339 bottles. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise.
It was worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. It was finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood layered over the light malt. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and pear. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.
At a natural 52.6% it is full and fruity. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is Glen Moray's clean, accessible Speyside style.
