Description
The bottler A.D. Rattray bottled this Glen Moray, a 10 year old, distilled in 2013, from cask 892, bottled at 64.3%, one of 264 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from La Martiniquaise, light and approachable in style. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise.
It was distilled light and fruity in the Glen Moray style, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. Maturation finished in a Sauternes cask, layered over the light Glen Moray make. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the body softer and the fruit riper. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin.
At a natural 64.3% it is full and fruity. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with honeyed apricot and a candied citrus from the cask. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The finish is long, fruity and clean. This is Glen Moray's clean, accessible Speyside style.
