Description
The Glasgow bottler Douglas Laing bottled this Glen Moray, a 10 year old, distilled in 2005, from cask DL 11186, bottled at 46%. Glen Moray is a fruity Speyside malt made on River Lossie water at Elgin. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie.
It was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the light fruit lead. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and pear. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. Glen Moray has long made an accessible, fruity Speyside in the classic style.
At 46% it is fresh, fruity and clean. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The finish is long, fruity and clean. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
