Description
Meadowside Blending bottled this Glen Mhor, a 21 year old, distilled in 1976, bottled at 43%, one of 114 bottles. Glen Mhor ran on Loch Ness water in Inverness for over ninety years before closing in 1983. It condensed its spirit in worm tubs, the source of its full, oily body.
It was worked through the stills and worm tubs for a rich, oily body, for a rich, oily make of orchard fruit and a waxy weight. Decades in ex-Bourbon oak drew out vanilla and a waxy, oily depth. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the orchard fruit turning rich over the full, waxy body. Slow oxidation over decades draws the full spirit towards a waxy, oily richness. The worm tubs gave a full, oily spirit, less copper contact leaving real weight in the make. Years in oak round the spirit, the orchard fruit deepening to dried fruit and beeswax. Long ageing turns the orchard fruit towards dried fruit, beeswax and a polished oak. No more will ever be made, the distillery silent since 1983.
At an approachable 43% it is soft and full. A waxy, full bodied sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is oily and full, the fruit carried on a waxy body. Apple, wax and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a rich, waxy single malt from silent Inverness.
