This Glen Mhor was bottled by the Campbeltown house Cadenhead, a 19 year old, at 57.8%. Rich and waxy, all apple, beeswax and an oily weight. Its make went largely to the blenders; single malt is rare. Built in 1892 by John Birnie and the blender Charles Mackinlay. This is Glen Mhor’s full, oily old Highland style.

Description
This Glen Mhor was bottled by the Campbeltown house Cadenhead, a 19 year old, distilled in 1976, bottled at 57.8%. Glen Mhor, founded in 1892, was one of Inverness's three vanished distilleries. Mackinlay and Birnie went on to buy the neighbouring Glen Albyn in 1920.
The spirit was distilled slow in the Inverness stillhouse, the worm tubs lending weight, for a fruity, oily spirit with real body. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the rich distillery character to the fore. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and pear) and a waxy, oily depth. With the distillery gone, the casks that remain are a finite record of its make. It was closed in the same cuts that took Glen Albyn, Brora and Banff. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the oily, waxy core over the decades. It was built in 1892 by John Birnie, a former manager of Glen Albyn, with the Leith blender Charles Mackinlay. No more will ever be made, the distillery silent since 1983.
At 57.8%, undiluted, it is deep and waxy. Apple, beeswax and a soft oil, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run apple, pear and a waxy oil. The finish runs oily, full and warming. This is a rare Highland single malt from a demolished distillery.
