Description
This Glen Keith was bottled by the German bottler The Whisky Agency, a 31 year old, distilled in 1993, bottled at 52.9%, one of 150 bottles. Glen Keith is a clean, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Keith in Moray. It was the first distillery in Scotland to use gas fired direct heating.
Worked through the tall stills for a light, sweet make, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla and a touch of coconut from the lactones. Ethereal and fragile, decades draw the light malt to a honeyed, waxy delicacy of sotolon, tropical fruit and old oak. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Keith character lead the way. It was built in 1957 by Seagram on the site of a meal mill, directly behind Strathisla. It was the first new distillery to open in Speyside since the great whisky crash of 1898.
At a hearty 52.9% it carries real weight. Green apple, honey and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is the light, fresh malt of Keith.
