Description
A 31 year old Glen Keith from the bottler The Whisky Jury, distilled in 1992, from cask 21728, bottled at 42.3%, one of 172 bottles. Glen Keith is a Speyside single malt from Keith, the first new Speyside distillery since the 1898 crash. It was built in 1957 by Seagram on the site of a meal mill, directly behind Strathisla.
The spirit was run through the tall stills on Balloch Hill water for a light make, building the fresh Glen Keith style. Maturation came in an Oloroso cask, layered over the light Glen Keith make. Ethereal and fragile, decades draw the light malt to a honeyed, waxy delicacy of sotolon, tropical fruit and old oak. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards tropical fruit, honey and a soft spice. Its water is drawn from the Balloch Hill spring above Keith. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Keith warehouses. It was the first distillery in Scotland to use gas fired direct heating.
At 42.3% it is fresh, fruity and clean. A clean, fruity sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and a clean malt sit behind the cask. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is a clean, fruity Speyside single malt.
