Description
A 30 year old Glen Keith from the German bottler The Whisky Agency, distilled in 1994, bottled at 53%, one of 263 bottles. Glen Keith, founded in 1957, was Seagram's innovation plant on Speyside. Its water is drawn from the Balloch Hill spring above Keith.
It was distilled light and fruity in the Glen Keith style, building the fresh Glen Keith style. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the fruit. At a great, fragile age oxidation rules, sotolon lending maple and dried fig as beeswax and a tropical fruit linger. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Keith character lead the way. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Keith warehouses. It was the first distillery in Scotland to use gas fired direct heating.
Bottled at a cask strength 53%, it is rich. Apple, pear and a soft vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
