Description
This Glen Keith was bottled by the Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage, a 29 year old, distilled in 1993, from cask 82786, bottled at 52.8%, one of 199 bottles. Glen Keith is a Speyside single malt from Keith, the first new Speyside distillery since the 1898 crash. It was Seagram's experimental plant, and still houses the Chivas Brothers lab.
It was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, building a light, fruity character of green apple and pear. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the fruit. At this evaporative stage ellagitannins lend a drying structure while oxidation builds a richer, tropical fruit. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. It sits within sight of Strathisla, the oldest distillery in Scotland. Maturation in the racked warehouses at Keith is slow and steady.
At cask strength 52.8% it is full bodied. Baked apple, citrus and a creamy vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is a Speyside single malt of real lightness.
