Description
A Glen Keith of a 28 year old chosen by the bottler North Star Spirits, distilled in 1993, bottled at 47.3%, one of 147 bottles. Glen Keith is a fruity Speyside single malt from the Chivas stable at Keith. It sits within sight of Strathisla, the oldest distillery in Scotland.
It was distilled from unpeated malt in tall, narrowing stills, for the light, fruity make Glen Keith is known for. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the light spirit. At this evaporative stage ellagitannins lend a drying structure while oxidation builds a richer, tropical fruit. Maturation in the racked warehouses at Keith is slow and steady. It was the first distillery in Scotland to use gas fired direct heating. The light, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. It was built in 1957 by Seagram on the site of a meal mill, directly behind Strathisla.
At cask strength 47.3% it is full bodied. A light, orchard fruit and citrus, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pear, citrus and a creamy vanilla fill the middle. The finish is long, fruity and clean. This is Glen Keith's clean, fruity Speyside style.
