Description
This Glen Keith was bottled by Liquid Treasures, a 27 year old, distilled in 1993, from cask 8527, bottled at 58.4%, one of 146 bottles. Glen Keith is a Speyside single malt from Chivas Brothers, light and sweet in style. It ran triple distillation from the start, switching to double distillation by the 1980s.
The spirit was run through the tall stills on Balloch Hill water for a light make, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the fruit. At this evaporative stage ellagitannins lend a drying structure while oxidation builds a richer, tropical fruit. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time. It sits within sight of Strathisla, the oldest distillery in Scotland. It was the first distillery in Scotland to use gas fired direct heating. Balloch Hill water and the tall stills give the light Glen Keith make.
At a hearty 58.4% it carries real weight. Green apple, honey and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is a Speyside single malt of real lightness.
