Description
A 26 year old Glen Keith from the Alistair Walker Whisky Company, distilled in 1993, from cask 8511, bottled at 54%, one of 134 bottles. Glen Keith is a Speyside single malt made behind Strathisla, mostly for the Chivas blends. Its tall, narrowing stills give a light, fruity Speyside spirit.
The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt in tall, narrowing stills, building a light, fruity character of green apple and pear. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending vanilla and a little coconut. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings tropical fruit, honey and a waxy depth over the apple. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. It was the first distillery in Scotland to use gas fired direct heating. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit.
At 54%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. Green apple, honey and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the Chivas stable.
