Description
This Glen Keith was bottled by Daily Dram, a 23 year old, distilled in 1997, bottled at 49.9%. Glen Keith is a Speyside single malt from Keith, the first new Speyside distillery since the 1898 crash. Single malt Glen Keith is rare, most of it coming from independent bottlers.
Distilled from unpeated malt in tall, narrowing stills, for a light, elegant spirit with a soft malt. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending vanilla and a little coconut. At this evaporative stage ellagitannins lend a drying structure while oxidation builds a richer, tropical fruit. Maturation in the racked warehouses at Keith is slow and steady. It sits within sight of Strathisla, the oldest distillery in Scotland. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time. It was the first distillery in Scotland to use gas fired direct heating. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards tropical fruit, honey and a soft spice.
At a natural 49.9% it is full and fruity. A light, orchard fruit and citrus, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is the light, fresh malt of Keith.
