Description
A Glen Keith of a 21 year old chosen by the Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage, distilled in 1997, from cask 72585, bottled at 52%, one of 235 bottles. Glen Keith is a clean, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Keith in Moray. Its first permanent single malt was released in 2017, the Distillery Edition.
Distilled from unpeated malt in tall, narrowing stills, for a light, elegant spirit with a soft malt. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the light fruit lead. At oxidative maturity aldehydes lend a nutty edge while ellagitannins add a gentle, drying grip over the fruit. Much of the Glen Keith make went to the blenders, a little kept as single malt. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. Its make went largely into the Chivas Regal, Passport and 100 Pipers blends. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Keith character lead the way.
At a natural 52% it is full and fruity. Green apple, honey and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is Glen Keith's clean, fruity Speyside style.
