Description
This Glen Keith was bottled by Jack Wiebers Whisky World, a 19 year old, distilled in 1996, from cask 8106, bottled at 56.2%, one of 156 bottles. Glen Keith is a Speyside single malt from Chivas Brothers, light and sweet in style. Its tall, narrowing stills give a light, fruity Speyside spirit.
The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt in tall, narrowing stills, for a light, elegant spirit with a soft malt. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending vanilla and a little coconut. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the apple turning honeyed and a soft tropical fruit creeping in. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and tropical fruit. Its make went largely into the Chivas Regal, Passport and 100 Pipers blends. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards tropical fruit, honey and a soft spice. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit.
At 56.2%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. A light, orchard fruit and citrus, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft orchard fruit and a clean malt sit behind the cask. The finish is long, fruity and clean. This is Glen Keith, Seagram's experimental Speyside malt.
