Description
A 14 year old Glen Keith from the London house Berry Bros and Rudd, distilled in 1996, from cask 72713, bottled at 55.1%. Glen Keith is a light Speyside malt, mothballed for years and revived in 2013. It ran triple distillation from the start, switching to double distillation by the 1980s.
The spirit was made on Balloch Hill water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, building the fresh Glen Keith style. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey. The clean, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. Single malt Glen Keith is rare, most of it coming from independent bottlers. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Keith warehouses.
At its natural 55.1% it is concentrated. Baked apple, citrus and a creamy vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A soft fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is a light Speyside single malt from the town of Keith.
