Description
Bottled by Best Dram, this Glasgow, a 7 year old release from 2018, drawn from cask 1079 and bottled at 58.7%. Only 651 bottles were released. Founded in 2012 by Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward, The Glasgow Distillery Company brought malt whisky back to the city. The first malt casks were filled in 2015, and the first single malt was released in 2018.
It was distilled twice in copper pot stills for a fruity spirit, building the Fresh and Fruity house style. A sherry cask wrapped the young spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. The fruity young make takes a wide range of casks well, from sherry to wine. The distillery is known for an adventurous cask policy, from Cognac and Marsala to Port and Tequila. The 1770 single malt comes in three styles: The Original, the Peated and the Triple Distilled. Water is drawn from Loch Katrine, and the whisky is bottled at natural colour without chill filtration.
Undiluted at 58.7%, it is powerful. A fresh, fruity sweetness lead, and the Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth. Soft orchard fruit sits behind the cask sweetness. It closes bright, fruity and warm. This is a vibrant young malt from the city of Glasgow.
