Giovanna Tantini Bardolino 2024

Giovanna Tantini built her winery in 2002 between Castelnuovo del Garda and Sona on the shores of Lake Garda, in the province of Verona, farming 11.5 hectares as a family estate that follows every stage from vine to bottle. Bardolino is the light red of the Garda shore, made from the same Corvina and Rondinella grapes as nearby Valpolicella but in a fresher, paler style. The moderating influence of the lake tempers the climate, while the morainic soils left by glaciers drain freely and suit a lighter expression of the grapes. The wine is fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel for six months, with no oak contact, so the focus stays on primary fruit and freshness. Temperature controlled fermentation in inert tanks preserves the aromatics and keeps the colour bright. Expect a pale cherry red colour, a nose of fresh cherry, red currant and red berries with a herbal, peppery lift, and a light bodied palate that is bright and easy with low tannin, fresh acidity and a clean, savoury finish. Serve at 14 to 15 degrees, lightly chilled. It suits light dishes and can stand in for a white.
