    Gin Mare Mediterranean Gin

    1 L, 1.75 L, 700 ml / 42.7%
    New Western

    Price range: $51 through $130

Rosemary, thyme and basil arrive before the juniper does, with a saline lick of Arbequina olive running underneath. Made at a small family distillery in Vilanova i la Geltru, near Barcelona, it bottles the Spanish coast at its herbal best. Soft, savoury and quietly briny.

Gin Mare is distilled at a modest family operation in Vilanova i la Geltru, a fishing town just down the coast from Barcelona, and it tastes of exactly that place. Alongside juniper, coriander and citrus peel sit the Mediterranean signatures that make it unmistakable: rosemary, thyme, basil and the prized Arbequina olive. Gentle distillation in copper stills keeps those delicate herbs intact and gives the gin its savoury, sun-baked character.

The nose carries fresh herbs, citrus and spicy juniper over a soft olive note. On the palate it is elegant and smooth, thyme and basil and rosemary woven through a faint saltiness, finishing long and herbal with a hint of citrus. It is the natural base for a herb-forward G&T, served with Mediterranean tonic and a rosemary sprig or a fat green olive.
