Gramona, a fifth generation Penedes house founded in 1881, blends Muscat with Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer for this low alcohol aromatic white. Jasmine and orange blossom lead into pineapple, white peach and a citrus edge.
Description
Gessami is an aromatic white from the D.O. Penedes in Catalonia, made by Gramona, a family winery founded in 1881 and now run by the fifth generation. The blend puts Muscat of Frontignan alongside Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer, three of the most perfumed white varieties grown. Penedes sits under a mild Mediterranean climate, with an average annual temperature near 15 degrees and rain spread across the year, conditions that ripen the fruit while holding the grapey florality these grapes are known for. Fermentation is cool and the wine sees no oak, which keeps the aromatics bright and the palate fresh. The nose is openly floral, with jasmine, orange blossom and rose over pineapple, white peach and a squeeze of lemon. The palate is light bodied at 11.2 percent alcohol, softly fruity and finished with citrus freshness rather than weight. Serve it well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a standard white glass. It works as an aperitif and suits lighter seafood, salads and fresh goat cheese.
