Description
Domaine Geschickt sits in Ammerschwihr in the Haut-Rhin and is one of the pioneers of natural winemaking in Alsace. Aurélie Fayolle and Arnaud Geschickt have farmed biodynamically since gaining Demeter certification in 1998, and famously use a working horse, Iris, for their field work to avoid compacting the soil. This is a red Pinot Noir made in a pure, low-intervention style, letting the grape and site speak for themselves. Alsace sits in the rain shadow of the Vosges mountains, which keeps the climate dry and sunny, while the region's varied soils and cool nights give Pinot Noir freshness and lift. Made naturally with minimal handling, the wine keeps its vivid primary character and delicate perfume. The colour is bright, light ruby, the nose showing wild strawberry, red cherry, redcurrant, rose and a touch of undergrowth. The palate is light and juicy, with fresh acidity, fine soft tannins and a clean, savoury finish. Being natural and unforced, it is best drunk young and served cool. Serve lightly chilled at 14 to 15 degrees with roast chicken, mushroom dishes or charcuterie.
