Description
Limoux in the south of France is where sparkling wine was recorded long before Champagne, and Gerard Bertrand's An 825 takes its name from that long history. This vintage-dated Brut Rose is made by the traditional method from Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Pinot Noir. The Chardonnay gives structure, the Chenin adds freshness and mineral tension, and the Pinot Noir brings the colour and red fruit. After bottle fermentation the wine rests on the lees for several months to build a fine mousse and a creamy texture, with a low brut dosage keeping it dry.
The wine shows a delicate salmon colour with sparkling lights. The nose leads with red fruit, particularly strawberry and raspberry, over toasted bread and a subtle yeasty note. The palate is lively, fresh and generous, with a fine bead, elegant fruit and a creamy feel that carries a long finish. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It makes a fine aperitif and suits salmon, seafood, light summer dishes and red-berry desserts.
