Gemma Miró makes Les Agulles in Catalonia from Garnacha Tinta grown at the Les Pinyanes estate, farmed naturally and organically. Unoaked and light, it shows fresh red cherry and berries with pine, garden herbs and a gentle peppery lift.
Description
Gemma Miró farms in Catalonia, working the family land she learned from her grandmother, and names Les Agulles for the pine needles of the Les Pinyanes estate. The wine is made from Garnacha Tinta, the warm-climate grape that gives soft, perfumed red fruit, grown here on dry inland hillsides scented with pine and wild herbs. The Mediterranean climate ripens the Garnacha while the elevation and cool nights keep the wine fresh and light, at just 12 percent alcohol. The farming is natural and organic, and the wine sees no oak, so the variety's bright fruit and the herbal, resinous character of the site come through unmasked. The colour is a light, translucent red. The nose shows red cherry and berries with white flowers, pine, garden herbs and thyme over a gentle peppery note. The palate is light and supple, with soft tannins, fresh acidity and a clean, herb-edged finish. This is a fragrant, low-alcohol natural Garnacha for relaxed drinking. Serve lightly chilled at 14 to 15 degrees, no decanting needed. It suits roast chicken, pork and lighter game.
