Gemma Miró, a biologist and winemaker, makes this orange Moscatel in Priorat. Aged in concrete, it has a golden hue and a fragrant lift of lemon, orange peel and white flowers at a fresh 12 percent.
Description
Gemma Miró is a biologist and winemaker who has set up her project in Priorat in Catalonia. La Lambretta, named for the Italian scooter, is an orange wine from Moscatel, a grape prized for its floral, grapey aromatics. Priorat is known for its steep slate licorella soils, which drain freely and force the vines to root deep, giving concentrated fruit with mineral length. The Moscatel ferments with skin contact and then ages in concrete, an inert vessel that holds the wine at a steady temperature and keeps the fruit fresh while rounding the texture without adding oak flavour. The skin contact tempers the grape's natural sweetness, giving a dry, lightly grippy wine that keeps its perfume, with the modest 12 percent alcohol holding it bright. The colour is a striking golden hue, with a fragrant nose of lemon, orange peel and white flowers lifted by rose. The palate is dry and aromatic, with white-peach fruit, a light phenolic grip and a clean, saline finish. Natural and organic, made with minimal intervention. Serve well chilled at 9 to 11 degrees as an aperitif or with light seafood.
