Anne and Jean-François Ganevat make this Vin de France red in the Jura from Gamay and Trousseau, farmed biodynamically. Naturally made and aged eight months in 500-litre oak, it is light and juicy, with red berries, cherry and a peppery lift.
Description
Anne and Jean-François Ganevat are the fourteenth generation running a family estate at Rotalier, in the south of the Jura, and a benchmark for natural winemaking in the region. Following biodynamics and minimal intervention, they farm seven hectares of local varieties and make many small cuvées each year. This Vin de France red blends Gamay and Trousseau, two light-bodied, aromatic grapes, into an easy, fresh style. The Jura sits in a cool, continental climate, and its clay and limestone marl soils give the wine its lift, its acidity and its delicate frame. The wine is made naturally, without heavy additions, and aged eight months in 500-litre French oak barrels, a large format that settles the texture without adding oak flavour, keeping the focus on bright fruit. The colour is a light, bright ruby. The nose is fresh and lifted, with red berries, cherry, red currant, a floral rose note and a peppery, earthy edge. The palate is light and juicy, with soft tannins, high acidity and a clean, savoury finish. Serve at 13 to 14 degrees, with a light chill. It suits poultry, charcuterie and lighter fish.
