Description
Fratelli Gancia has made sparkling wine in Piedmont since 1850 and is closely tied to the birth of Asti. This Asti DOCG is produced from 100 per cent Moscato Bianco grown on the calcareous, sandy hills around Canelli. Fermentation follows the Charmat or tank method at controlled temperature, and it is stopped while sugar remains, so the wine keeps its gentle sweetness and low alcohol along with the fresh, grapey Muscat aromatics.
The wine is a bright golden yellow with a fine, persistent bead. The nose is intense and floral, with white peach, muscat blossom, honey and orange blossom over a hint of tropical fruit. The palate is soft and lively with a clear balance between sweetness and freshness, closing long and floral on the grape's signature Muscat character. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees in a sparkling wine glass. It is a natural partner for fruit desserts, pastries and lighter puddings.
