Description
Gabin et Felix Richoux Irancy Le Veaupessiot is a single-site Pinot Noir from Irancy in northern Burgundy, made by a family farming there organically and biodynamically. The vineyards sit in a natural amphitheatre around the village on limestone and clay soils, which, with the cool semi-continental climate, give Irancy Pinot Noir its high acidity and earthy, savoury character. The 2017 was raised for 24 months in total, with 12 months in barrel adding structure through slow oxygen exchange and 12 months in stainless steel preserving the fruit's freshness and detail. The combination keeps the wine balanced between savoury development and clean fruit. The colour is medium ruby. The nose leads with smoked cherry, red berries and spice over earth and a touch of leather. The palate is fine-boned and savoury, with firm but ripe tannins, fresh acidity and a long finish of black pepper and dried herbs. It can be enjoyed now or held for a few years in the cellar. Serve at 16C, with a short decant if young. It is well suited to roast duck, game birds and dishes with mushrooms.
