Viña Vilano make Full Flap Blanco in the D.O. Tierra de León from Albarín, a native grape of cold northern León. Aged on its lees, it is a fresh, aromatic white of citrus and tropical fruit with a green herb lift of basil and mint.
Description
Full Flap Blanco is made by Viña Vilano in the D.O. Tierra de León, in the cold north of the Castilian meseta, from the local white grape Albarín. This is a high, continental region where cold air and long, harsh winters give a short growing season and slow ripening, so the fruit keeps sharp acidity and a fresh, aromatic character. Albarín is an aromatic native variety of the area, prized for its perfume and citrus drive. The wine is aged on its lees, resting on the spent yeast after fermentation; the lees give a rounder texture and a little more depth and savour while keeping the wine fresh and unoaked. The style is deliberately understated, letting the grape and place speak. The colour is pale with green tints. The nose is fresh and lifted, with lemon and green apple, ripe tropical fruit and a distinct herbal note of basil and freshly crushed mint over white flowers. The palate is dry and crisp, with a light lees weight and a clean, herb tinged finish. Serve well chilled at 9 to 10 degrees as an aperitif or with lighter food.
