Description
Fuerza is made by Ego Bodegas in DO Jumilla, a few kilometres from the town of Jumilla in Murcia, from 25 hectares of estate vineyards. It blends Cabernet Sauvignon with the native Monastrell, the latter grown on ungrafted vines averaging 50 years of age. Jumilla is hot and dry, with poor soils that limit yields and concentrate the fruit, while the old Monastrell vines add depth and the thick-skinned grape contributes colour and firm tannin. Cabernet Sauvignon brings cassis, structure and aromatic lift, balancing Monastrell's dark, warm fruit. Ageing for 12 months in French and American oak barrels softens the tannins through gradual oxygen exchange and adds vanilla, spice and a measure of toast, with the two oak origins lending both finesse and sweeter spice. The wine is deep cherry red, with a nose of blackberry and dark plum framed by black pepper and sweet oak. The palate is full bodied at 14.5 percent, with grainy tannin, savoury depth and a long, peppery, liquorice tinged finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanting an hour ahead. It is built for grilled and roast red meats.
