Frontonio Supersónico Garnacha is an organic, vegan Aragón red from Bodegas Frontonio, founded by Fernando Mora. Made from Garnacha with a little Macabeo and aged twelve months in oak, it is fresh and aromatic, with ripe cherry, wild strawberry and a herbal, peppery edge.
Description
Bodegas Frontonio was founded by Fernando Mora with his partners in Aragón, working old vineyards in Valdejalón. Supersónico is built around Garnacha with a small portion of the white Macabeo, grown on stony soils at altitude where the variety has long thrived. The high, continental sites bring hot days and cold nights, a wide diurnal range that holds acidity and aromatic freshness while the fruit ripens, so the wine keeps its lift rather than turning heavy. The estate farms organically and makes the wine without animal products. Co fermenting a little Macabeo with the red grapes adds aromatic perfume and freshness, a traditional touch in the region. The wine is aged for around twelve months in oak, which softens the tannins through slow oxygen exchange and adds gentle spice while leaving the fruit and freshness in the lead. The colour is a bright, glossy red. The nose shows ripe cherry, wild strawberry and a herbal, peppery lift. The palate is fresh and medium bodied, with fine tannins, juicy red fruit and a savoury, stony finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees. It suits lamb, beef and pork as well as mushroom dishes.
