Frontonio Microcósmico Macabeo is an organic white from Bodegas Frontonio in Épila, IGP Valdejalón in Aragón, the project of Master of Wine Fernando Mora. Rested six months on lees in steel, it is fresh and mineral, with lemon, green apple and a savoury edge.
Description
Bodegas Frontonio was founded in 2008 in Épila, in IGP Valdejalón in Aragón, by Fernando Mora, a Master of Wine, and the oenologist Mario López, with the aim of raising the profile of the region and its old vines. The estate manages around 50 hectares under a continental Mediterranean climate and has been certified organic since 2017. Microcósmico is made from Macabeo, the grape also known as Viura, grown in this warm but elevation tempered inland zone where cool nights preserve acidity. The wine is made in stainless steel and held six months on its lees. Macabeo is a naturally gentle, subtly aromatic variety, and the extended lees contact is what gives the wine its texture and savoury depth, broadening a mid palate that would otherwise be lean while keeping the wine fresh and free of oak. The colour is lemon yellow with greenish glints. The nose is delicate, with lemon and green apple over white flowers and a faint herbal note. The palate is fresh and mineral, with citrus fruit, a subtle doughy savoury depth from the lees and a clean, saline edged finish. Serve chilled at 9 to 11 degrees. It suits fish and lighter dishes.
