Frisach Les Alifares is an organic orange wine from single-varietal Garnacha Gris, grown in Terra Alta by the Frisach family at Corbera d’Ebre. Eight months on its lees gives a textured wine with white peach, apricot and orange peel over a savoury, herbal base.
Description
Celler Frisach is a family winery founded in 2004 in Corbera d'Ebre, within D.O. Terra Alta, committed to indigenous varieties and natural winemaking. Les Alifares takes its name from the old Catalan word for the feast that marked the close of an important deal. It is a single varietal orange wine from Garnacha Gris, a pink-skinned mutation of Garnacha that is local to the region. The grapes are macerated on their skins, which gives the wine its amber colour and a gentle phenolic grip, then it ages eight months on its lees. Resting on the spent yeast adds texture and a savoury weight as mannoproteins are released, while protecting the wine and rounding the palate. Terra Alta is a high, dry inland appellation where the warm days and cooler nights at altitude preserve acidity and keep the aromatics defined. The wine pours a pale to medium amber. The nose runs to white peach, apricot and orange peel with dried herbs and a touch of honey. The palate is dry and textured, the lees weight balanced by fresh acidity, finishing with an almond and citrus peel savour. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a white wine glass. It works through a range of lighter dishes.
