Weingut Carl Ehrhard make this natural Riesling on the Rüdesheim slopes of the Rheingau. The white grapes ferment on their skins, giving an orange wine with lemon, apricot and a dry, textured grip alongside the variety’s bright acidity.

Description
Weingut Carl Ehrhard sits on the slopes below the Rüdesheimer Berg in the Rheingau, a family estate founded around 150 years ago and now run by the fifth generation. This skin-contact Riesling is fermented with the grape skins, the same approach used for red wine, so the clear juice picks up colour, phenolic texture and a measured grip it would not otherwise carry. The Rheingau's south-facing slopes catch the sun along the Rhine, while quartzite and slate soils and the cooling effect of the river keep Riesling's natural acidity firm, which is what gives this wine its backbone under the skin tannin. Farming is organic and the wine is made naturally and vegan, without fining. The colour is light amber. The nose shows lemon and citrus peel, apricot and green apple, with chamomile and a touch of beeswax from the skin contact. The palate is dry and savoury, the Riesling acidity cutting through a gentle tannic frame to a clean, stony finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
